Where There is Vision

leadership vision

There I was sitting in the back of my math class squinting at the teacher, doing my best to try and rationalize why he was drawing abstract art on the whiteboard. What does Pablo Picasso have to do with the quadratic equation? I thought this was math? Isn’t my art class 5th period?

I held my hand out in front of my face. Ok, yep I can see my hand. I started flipping through the pages of my textbook. Alright, math problems. Those looked familiar. I jerked my head up to look back at the whiteboard, Picasso. Not good.

The rest of the day I struggled in all of my classes. My art teacher was impressed though!

I came to school the next day with a nice pair of glasses resembling the ones my mom and dad both sported with the promise that my contacts were being shipped immediately.

The important thing, I had my vision back. I was looking at the world through a clear lens, seeing things with much more detail than ever before. I realized that the first step to being successful is having clear vision of not only what’s right in front of me, but what is in the distance.

LEADERSHIP WITH VISION

I started to understand that my future was determined by my current actions, and without a vision for my future then I would probably end up confused again just like I was in math class. Leadership is reliant on vision. It is allowing yourself the freedom to dream, to focus attention on what you believe could exist.

Proverbs 29:18 says, where there is no vision, the people perish. That’s no good.

But if that is the case then the opposite must also be true—where there is vision, the people thrive. Where there is vision, there is purpose, authentic passion, hope for the future, and fulfillment.  It’s compelling, compassionate, and captures the heart.

This all starts with a couple simply great questions. Who do I want to become? Who do I want to inspire? What is most important to me? How do I want to experience life? And then the continued question, what’s the next step I need to take to for this to become a reality?

WHY IS LEADERSHIP VISION IMPORTANT?

A vision, seeing what God is calling you to do and pulling you towards creates a practical path to walk down—the first step to creating a plan to start living and leading with purpose. This lens also helps us as leaders see what God has planned for other people’s lives, giving us the power to pull this potential out of them, and inspire them to see it within themselves.

The funny thing is my eyesight has gotten worse, but my vision has become much more clear.
