Finding Your Purpose By Finding Compassion

How to Find Your Purpose

We hear the words passion and purpose quite a bit these days, don’t we? I don’t know about you but sometimes it’s downright confusing to figure it all out. The 2 most searched questions on Google right now—how to find your purpose, how to find your passion?

No idea if this is true or not, but it has to be close.

It’s a struggle almost everybody goes through. I mean I feel like it’s the age of constant questioning. What am I supposed to do with my life, what is the purpose of life, what is the best peanut butter to jelly ratio?

Trust me, I’ve felt lost. I’ve doubted myself. I’ve questioned if I was born for more. I’ve longed to find more purpose. I’ve been confused how I could impact people. I’ve prayed about these questions myself… and googled them.

The one thing I found out, we need to ask better questions. If we want to live the fulfilling and purposeful life that we dream of and feel like we deserve then we need to start thinking differently.

Finding Your Purpose in Life

“It’s not enough to have lived. We should be determined to live for something.” ―Winston S. Churchill

The word purpose just seems so big. Sometimes I read these quotes and end up doubting myself rather than becoming inspired. We’ve started to trick ourselves that a uniquely called life is limited for a few, the ones who were blessed enough to figure it all out.

Part of experiencing life is the adventure of figuring it out. And by adventure I mean adventure, a questionable and exciting experience, sometimes scary and hazardous. That’s what life is, and even when we find “purpose” it’s still going to be an adventure.

But I’ve learned a shortcut, that the adventure for purpose always leads to love. Our purpose doesn’t have to complicated. Just go love people.

Find Your Purpose and Give It Away

“If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.” – Dalai Lama

The uniquely called, the ones that have been living purposeful lives have learned how put their love to action. They don’t ask themselves what they’re passionate about, they ask themselves what are they’re compassionate about.

Passion can fuel your joy, compassion can fuel your purpose. The world needs more people following their compassion.

After all, the prefix com means with or together, and when we clearly define our purpose as passionately serving others we live in fulfillment.

To do this we have to start asking the better questions, the how can I help questions. What am I most compassionate about? What is the most important thing I can do for people with my time and energy? What unique strengths and talents do I have that can help someone else? What can someone learn from my life experiences? How can I help?

I once heard that compassion is passion with heart. Maybe that’s what it means to follow your heart? When we match compassion with purpose, we begin to change the world.
